Why French Brandy
French brandy is quickly becoming a hot topic in the whisky world. As someone who has done a fair bit of research—and tasting—I can clearly see why.
- If you’re a true fan of whisky, you have the palate to appreciate good spirit in general. There are many high-quality Cognac and Amagnac bottles out there that just leave you wondering, “Why haven’t I tried this sooner?”
- In the world of French brandy, high-quality and old age—and I mean real craftsmanship from the 60s and 70s—aren’t things that will break your bank. On the contrary, this is your chance of getting your hands on something truly extraordinary without blowing your budget.
- Cognac and Armagnac don’t exist in their own French bubble. They already have plenty of overlap with the whisky world in terms of Ratings on popular whisky pages. This is a great time-saver for single malt fans who want to also stay up to date with the malternatives.
I’ll always be a fan of whisky, first and foremost. However, I can see that the malternatives are here to stay, and for all the right reasons. Together with my partners from Wu Dram Clan, I’ve already picked a few outstanding Cognac and Armagnac casks, and this is just the beginning.

I'm Boris – founder of The Whisky Kingdom and long-time whisky aficionado.
I had my very first whisky tasting in 2013. Just shortly after that, I got passionate enough about it to start going to whisky festivals around Europe. For me, very few drinks compare to a dram of smoky Islay whisky. However, it's not a secret that I have a soft spot for one brand in particular. Ever since that day in 2013, I have been an avid Lagavulin fan. For this reason, you can see me at Fèis Ìle every spring – in years when it’s being held, that is.
One thing led to another, and in 2018 I got the chance—and honor—to bottle a single cask of Lagavulin together with several fellow malt enthusiasts. In order to make it happen, I had to start a company. This is how The Whisky Kingdom was born. It was inevitable that my hobby would one day turn into a business, but I’m glad my favorite whisky is what started it all.
Today, The Whisky Kingdom is a place for exclusive spirits. I make sure to track down bottles of high quality that you won’t typically see in a store. Every cask that I bottle together with Wu Dram Clan needs to convince us with a strong character, from nose to finish. My motto is simple: Quality before quantity.
