Ein Schloss, die Geschichte eines Riesen, ein rarer 27 Jahre alter Irish Whiskey \u2013 diese Abf\u00fcllung ist wie aus dem M\u00e4rchen. Knappogue Castle 1994\/2021 ist Teil der neuen Serie Ex Libris von La Maison du Whisky, jedoch exklusiv ausgew\u00e4hlt und abgef\u00fcllt f\u00fcr Kirsch Import. Die Reihe widmet sich ganz dem World Whisky, wobei die Etiketten den Titelseiten gro\u00dfer literarischer Klassiker nachempfunden und die Abf\u00fcllungen nach Schl\u00fcsselwerken aus ihren Herkunftsl\u00e4ndern benannt sind. Sie umfasst einen sehr alten Roggenwhiskey aus Kanada sowie drei irische Single Malts aus den Jahren 1994, 1995 und 1996, die unter dem Markennamen Knappogue (ausgesprochen Nah\u2019 Pogue) Castle abgef\u00fcllt wurden.<\/p>\n

Das Knappogue Castle kann man besuchen. Eine Destillerie findet man am Standort der Burg aus dem 15. Jahrhundert aber nicht. Deren Whiskeygeschichte begann erst Mitte der 1960er \u2013 als die irische Whiskeyproduktion auf einem absoluten Tiefstand war. Der damalige Besitzer der Burg, Marc Andrews, kaufte Restbest\u00e4nde geschlossener Brennereien und legte den Grundstein f\u00fcr die Marke Knappogue Castle. Was Andrews f\u00fcr den Privatgebrauch begann, f\u00fchrte sein Sohn erfolgreich fort. Den Whiskey f\u00fcr seine Abf\u00fcllungen bezieht er von verschiedenen irischen Destillerien \u2013 wie auch f\u00fcr Knappogue Castle 1994, dessen honigs\u00fc\u00dfer, dreifach destillierter Whiskey aus der wohl \u00e4ltesten Destillerie des Landes stammt.<\/p>\n
